St. James, the Greater Parish Church/Dapitan Catholic Church, Philippines – Photo Tour : Tourism – Week 03, Day 08

I was mesmerized by the ceiling of this church. It’s a dizzying sight just by looking up and taking photos of it. I could say that the ceiling is very different from all the other churches in the Philippines. Jose Rizal used to attend mass here every Sundays during his exile. Some words of caution: Don’t look up too long and you’ll end up sitting on the bench due to spinning surroundings.

While looking for the right spot to get the facade at the center of my photo, I was told to keep off the grass, it’s off limits.

  1. I read somewhere that Catholic churches were more ostentatious so when the mind wandered during a service, it was led back to god. The Protestant view was the opposite – too much distraction etc
