Aviary of Eden – Davao, Philippines

According to Wikipedia, an Aviary is a large enclosure for confining birds to allow them a larger space where they can fly. It often contains plants and shrubberies simulating a natural environment. During my visit to Eden Nature Park, in Davao, Philippines, I found out that the Aviary was in a small chunk of the park where midget flight cages were making room for a  number of birds, a pocket-size collection but, it’s worth the round. For me, it was an educational off-road trip getting close to nature once again.

Rain and Birds

i’m not in the mood
to cook my breakfast
last night I was the nude
my first but not my last
the stupid rains have fell
without any stupid signs
in the end of summer’s tail
brought along  a few cold chimes
chirping birds at the veranda’s roof
changing weather, they too have felt
wanted to chase, them with a spoof
can’t sleep with noise, that they all belt
they chirped so loud, pounding all along
the sound of the roof, battered by rain
like an orchestra, belting out a song
a sleep disturbed, the colds have reigned
so here i am, awake with pain
my head and bones, need a repair
unpredictable rain, and boisterous birds
naked now, rain and birds, i have to bear…

“I Fear for…” – a Palinode : NaPoWriMo, 2015 – Day 08

And now, without further ado, our prompt (optional as always) for Day Eight: today I challenge you to write a palinode. And what’s that? It’s a poem in which the poet retracts a statement made in an earlier poem. You could take that route or, if you don’t have an actual poetically-expressed statement you want to retract, maybe you could write a poem in which you explain your reasons for changing your mind about something. It could be anything from how you decided that you like anchovies after all to how you decided that annoying girl was actually cool enough that you married her.

i want to see the world
not in dreams
not in imagination
not in mental images
from somewhere
not to see it drifting in air
like a feather that lands anywhere
when the wind stops its blow
i like  the flight of birds that
purposely fly above and land
in places they want to…
where they can view in its entirety
the serene beauty of land up in the air…
and circle the paradise of buildings
that sprouts in cities
the patches of greens of the mountains and hills
the view of the seas and oceans
while they fly with untiring strength…but today,
i have second thoughts
of going around…seeing everything i wish
to see …
the world is in chaos
hearing and reading the news…
it’s everywhere,
slashing of throats,
burning humans alive, stonings,
children being put in first line of defense
now i’m afraid to run around,
walk the alleys, swim the beaches
drive the streets and avenues,
breath the air of parks, sit on benches
of street coffee shops….
terrorists barged in everywhere
schools, universities,malls,
grocery stores
today,  a travel plan
is put aside by fear… i fear for my life…

hosp. home flowers 007

the wood’s now brittle

no more sap to flow

the leaves have withered

 with the roots below

 grand and lovely crown

forty years was yours

the envy in town

of the birds outdoors

people have missed you

sweet fruits and your shade

they showed up but  few

leaving without adieu

it’s hurting to see

the goal can’t go on

to dioxide with glee

air’s monoxide carbon

leaving dry the woods

as you breath your last

no longer the food

fuel to burn fast

The Tree, Still Young : DAY 04 – ( MY PROMPTS )

Oak Sapling

I am just starting a new life

I wonder if I will survive

chances are, birds and butterflies

the bees and dragonflies

will soon enjoy my shade

playing in the sunrise

but as the day is made

noon is coming, otherwise

and with the scorching heat

shade, yet I couldn’t provide

I am still very young

with small branches to be sprung

my leaves are still very small

to store my needed chlorophyll

I am confused, I am still

when and how it is to feel

how it is to be neglected

in paradise, I am rejected

maybe it’s a lot painful

when my surroundings are sands

but in due time I will understand

how it is to be born

without both hands

and i’m leaving this question

am I free to grow in your land?

“Flowers of Incheon”

May 06, 2014, few hours before we leave 012                                    May 06, 2014, few hours before we leave 013

 Beautiful, beautiful flowers of Incheon

Red, pink, violet, white, and fuschia

Their names, I know not, I can’t mention

Moths, butterflies, birds, and wind come to their pollination

May 06, 2014, few hours before we leave 017                                    May 06, 2014, few hours before we leave 014

Appeared over one hundred twenty million years ago

have evolved in great diversity of forms and coloration

If I am a bee, is permission granted for me to pollinate you

To bring color and fragrance to this lovely Incheon.

Lovely flowers, why are you here on the sidewalk

Too much sun, too much rain would put you in danger

You can’t complain, you know you couldn’t talk

Isn’t it right to see you in a vase with water.

Flower, not all of you grow in a flower pot

Some are wild they chose to be on the ground

Others dare to climb the window grill though it’s not

a stairway to heaven that you have found.
