“I Fear for…” – a Palinode : NaPoWriMo, 2015 – Day 08

And now, without further ado, our prompt (optional as always) for Day Eight: today I challenge you to write a palinode. And what’s that? It’s a poem in which the poet retracts a statement made in an earlier poem. You could take that route or, if you don’t have an actual poetically-expressed statement you want to retract, maybe you could write a poem in which you explain your reasons for changing your mind about something. It could be anything from how you decided that you like anchovies after all to how you decided that annoying girl was actually cool enough that you married her.

i want to see the world
not in dreams
not in imagination
not in mental images
from somewhere
not to see it drifting in air
like a feather that lands anywhere
when the wind stops its blow
i like  the flight of birds that
purposely fly above and land
in places they want to…
where they can view in its entirety
the serene beauty of land up in the air…
and circle the paradise of buildings
that sprouts in cities
the patches of greens of the mountains and hills
the view of the seas and oceans
while they fly with untiring strength…but today,
i have second thoughts
of going around…seeing everything i wish
to see …
the world is in chaos
hearing and reading the news…
it’s everywhere,
slashing of throats,
burning humans alive, stonings,
children being put in first line of defense
now i’m afraid to run around,
walk the alleys, swim the beaches
drive the streets and avenues,
breath the air of parks, sit on benches
of street coffee shops….
terrorists barged in everywhere
schools, universities,malls,
grocery stores
today,  a travel plan
is put aside by fear… i fear for my life…

Tourists can’t go near the basin of the falls as it is dangerous. There’s a view deck for tourists and photographers alike to capture the whole image. The current is relatively strong and no one is permitted to take a bath at the banks.  Electricity for the province  and its surrounding provinces as well is sourced here.

This is the downstream where the falls discharges its furious water into the river and into the sea. There are picnic cottages where people can spend some time for a rest and snacks.

St. James, the Greater Parish Church/Dapitan Catholic Church, Philippines – Photo Tour : Tourism – Week 03, Day 08

Dapitan, 08-30-14 021 (2)

I was mesmerized by the ceiling of this church. It’s a dizzying sight just by looking up and taking photos of it. I could say that the ceiling is very different from all the other churches in the Philippines. Jose Rizal used to attend mass here every Sundays during his exile. Some words of caution: Don’t look up too long and you’ll end up sitting on the bench due to spinning surroundings.

While looking for the right spot to get the facade at the center of my photo, I was told to keep off the grass, it’s off limits.

hosp. home flowers 007

the wood’s now brittle

no more sap to flow

the leaves have withered

 with the roots below

 grand and lovely crown

forty years was yours

the envy in town

of the birds outdoors

people have missed you

sweet fruits and your shade

they showed up but  few

leaving without adieu

it’s hurting to see

the goal can’t go on

to dioxide with glee

air’s monoxide carbon

leaving dry the woods

as you breath your last

no longer the food

fuel to burn fast
